Sacred Rhythms
21”x 31” copper foil and stained glass 2005
Several years ago I had the wonderful opportunity to witness a Navajo Ceremony that involved the blessing of the 4 sacred peaks that surround the Navajo Nation. The San Francisco Peaks represents the Scared Mountains of the West, The Abalone Shell Mountain (Diichili Dzil). This ceremony takes place during the full moon in mid summer and was located just north of The Peaks. It involved many hours of blessings and prayers. The ceremony lasted for 2 days. I was thrilled to be allowed to participate in this ancient ritual.
This stained glass piece, “Sacred Rhythms” was inspired by this ceremony and the sight of The Peaks being bathed in the silvery light of the full July moon known as the Buck Moon.
